Day 4: Blumbey - A small, innovate winery in Mendoza.
Before taking off for the airport that evening, we stopped by Gabriel Vivanco's winery, Blumbey. We were thoroughly impressed by his new take on wine. Turns out he makes his wine not from grapes, but from nectar!
Gabriel spent a few years traveling the world to learn about wine and what really inspired him. He came back to Argentina and had his "aha moment. Since his family owns a bee farm, why not make wine from their nectar?. After several attempts, he finally got it right. I was blown away by the ability to really taste the floral aspect and get a feel of the landscape from just a sip of the beverage. It was light and crisp. We couldn’t resist and purchased a bottle hoping it would squeeze into our carry on.
We were sad we didn’t have more time available to spend with our new friends (Sol, our host, and Gabriel, the winemaker), but so happy we got the chance to visit his winery. It made for a fabulous last stop in Mendoza.
